A 10-man Mohammedan Sporting Club rallied to hold Minerva Academy FC 1-1 in their final round encounter of the ongoing I-League 2nd Division here on Thursday at the Sector 17 Football Ground in Chandigarh.
Minerva took the early lead through Manvir Singh who slotted one past Priyant Singh in the 7th minute to put his side ahead.
Having sufferd early jolt, Mohammedan SC began pressing in numbers in search of the equalizer while in the process close chances fell for James Moga and Nagen Tamang but led by Kareem Omolaja Nurain the Minerva defense stood firm denying Mohammedan SC attackers.
However, just when Minerva were looking good to take their slender advantage into the half-time Mohammedan SC found the equalizer through Moga who converted a spot kick to put Mohammedan SC back on level in the injury time.
Mohammedan SC began the second-half on the front foot. The Subrata Bhattacharya's (Jr.) side created some good chances through Moga and Ajay but poor finishing upfront and a red card to Moga in the 57th minutes dashed Mohammedan SC's chances of winning the tie as the referee blew final whistle with scores locked 1-1.
The draw means Minerva remain on second position with 12 points from 7 games while Mohammedan SC climbed up to third on 8 points from 6 games.
Mohammedan SC will now travel to Srinagar where they face Lonestar Kashmir FC on Sunday (May 8, 2016).
