3 Goalkeepers Liverpool should sign in summer

Premier League Liverpool are in eight place in the league table and are still on track to finish in the Europa League this season.

New manager Jurgen Klopp who took the reins at Anfield back in October has defended his goalkeepers especially Simon Mignolet who was approached over a contract extension late last year after the manager denied wanting a new first-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool

However, with high profile mistakes in both Premier League and Domestic cup competitions from both Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan including two goals conceded direct from a corner kick Klopp may have to re-evaluate the situation between the sticks at Anfield.

Promising Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward was recently called back early from his loan deal with Scottish Outfit Aberdeen which asks the question of whether Klopp is actually content with his first two options in goal. The 22-year-old was due to be at Pittodrie until the summer and has been an ever present in the first team, keeping 11 clean sheets in 29 matches.

With the goalkeeper position at Liverpool under scrutiny, here I look at FOUR goalkeepers from the Football League that Liverpool should consider signing.

Kieran Westwood
The 31-year-old has made 18 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this season, managing to keep 5 clean sheets in the process, and made a total of 44 appearances, keeping 16 clean sheets in all competitions last season.

Westwood has got Premier League experience under his belt with Sunderland between 2011 and 2014, making a total of 19 appearances after joining from Coventry City on a free transfer.

His experience at Club and International level would make him a good choice for Liverpool but the club may prefer a younger alternative.

David Marshall
David Marshall was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League during Cardiff City’s debut season in the top flight where the Scotland International made a total of 45 appearances, keeping a total 8 clean sheets in all competitions.

The 30-year-old has been regularly linked to moves back to the Premier League with Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal and West Brom all believed to have been interested in the goalkeeper.

Marshall signed for the Bluebirds back in October 2010 after joining from Norwich for £385k aged 25 which has proved to be a shrewd acquisition by then manager Dave Jones.

Cardiff’s captain Marshall would be an expensive signing for Liverpool after Cardiff City placed a £10million valuation on the stopper following interest from Everton therefore Klopp could be put off a potential move, forcing him to look elsewhere.

Daniel Bentley
Southend United's highly rated goalkeeper Daniel Bentley has previously insisted that he has not been fazed by the speculation surrounding his future after being linked to a variety of clubs over the last year.

The 22-year-old was close to joining Sky Bet Championship side QPR in the summer but the former Premier League club opted to sign Alex Smithies instead and have recently signed Wycombe’s Matt Ingram which has closed the door on a move to Loftus road, although despite this Bentley still has a variety of suitors that could look to sign the former Arsenal goalkeeper.

Bentley has youth on his side and could be a future prospect for the English national side if he continues to perform consistently for Southend.

Bentley would likely be the best long term option for Liverpool although his lack of experience at Championship level never mind Premier League could hinder his chances of joining a club with such standing as Liverpool
