Shares of Alphabet, Google holding company, rose after they unveiled better than expected.
The Alphabet, holding that adds Google and other companies of the group, presented on Monday financial results for the fourth quarter of 2015 than expected, leading to valorize their actions.
Thanks to an increase of 9% in the market out-of-hours, the Alphabet overtook Apple as the most valuable company in the world, worth about 568 billion (€ 524 billion) against 535 000 million dollars (494 billion euros) rival, reported the BBC and Reuters.
If the trend is confirmed in the session on Tuesday, the Alphabet officially dethrone Apple the most valuable company in the world place on the stock exchange.
In the fourth quarter, the Alphabet showed profits 4.92 billion dollars (4.54 billion euros), up 5%. Over the year 2015, the increase was even more significant: 12% to 15.8 billion (EUR 14.6 billion).
This was the first time the Alphabet separated the Google results - core business of the group - the other activities, designated "other bets" as the cars without driver or the internet balloons.
On an annual basis, the business of "other bets" meant a loss of 3.6 billion dollars (3.3 billion euros), very little compared with the turnover of 75 billion dollars (69 billion euros) in the same period.
Ruth Porat, financial director of the company, attributed the profits to the "increased use in mobile search by consumers," as well as YouTube growth, also thanks to online advertising.
"While the core business continue to operate well and with profits, investment in these businesses [new] can continue," he told Reuters Ronald Josey, the JMP Securities.
Sundar Pichai, Google's chief executive, also said that Gmail service has exceeded the threshold of one billion users.
